Help Save Just One!

The Covering Home for Children from Tina S on Vimeo.

The video above was taken in February at The Covering in Sierra Leone, West Africa.  If you've been following this blog, you know that I visited The Covering myself in May.  It's truly an incredible place!

The Covering is a new facility, only having been open since September of 2009.  However, it is already full to beyond capacity with over 80 children.  I can tell you from seeing it myself, that these children are receiving love, encouragement and the basic necessities of life like they have never experienced before.  Every day, they are being taught about Jesus and they are so thankful for what He has done in their lives.

The boy in the video who gives his testimony is Sam.  Sam was rescued from a horribly abusive orphanage last fall, just as The Covering was opening.  Sam is around 14 years old.  He's such blessing....a young man who was introduced to Christ and who will make a huge difference in this world.  He's very bright, articulate, has more courage than you could imagine, and he is a great leader.  I'm so thankful he is at The Covering!  I can't imagine him being in the horrible conditions he was rescued from!  Each child has his/her own story, just like Sam.

Our family sponsors the Essa siblings...Mamie, Muhammed, Jinnah & Sao.  It has been such a blessing to be part of their lives!  We know that our contributions each month are sent to ensure that these four kiddos have a safe place to live, medical attention they need, food, and an education.  We've been able to send them gifts and receive updated pictures of them every few months.  And, of course, I had an amazing opportunity to travel to meet them in person.... it was life-changing!  As they get older, we'll be able to Skype with them so that we can truly be part of their family.  They have photo albums of our family (that I hand delivered) and they know that we love them and are praying for them every day.  We truly feel like they are "our" kids.  We will continue to show them love and support them in whatever way we can.  In the video, you can see Mamie in a yellow dress standing at the top of a set of steps and Muhammed is in a blue tropical shirt dancing.  They are just precious and I can't tell you how much I love them!  This is what sponsorship for The Raining Season is.

These are "our" kids,  Mamie & Muhammed - aren't they precious!!

And "our" twins, Gerald & Geraldine - sweet babies!

The Covering is run totally on sponsorships.   They are raising over 80 children who were once living in poverty that I cannot describe to you in words.  Sponsorships provide the food, water, electricity, clothing, building, beds, mosquito nets, shoes, teacher and caregiver salaries, doctor appointments, dentist appointments, books, school supplies.....EVERYTHING.  Without sponsorships, The Covering would not be able to operate.  These kids would be back on the streets in their tattered and torn clothes, with nothing to eat let alone an education.

There are approximately 12 kids at The Covering who are not fully sponsored at this time.  I'm going to introduce you to two of them and I hope that you'll pray about sponsoring them.  James 1:27 says this....."Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this:  to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."

To whom much is given, much is expected.  We are so blessed!  Please consider  looking after these orphans!
