Faith Without Works Is Dead

Drawn from Water from Drawn From Water on Vimeo.

This tells an incredible story of how one orphanage, Drawn From Water,  began in Ethiopia just this year.  It is so far beyond my understanding how REAL children are purposefully killed because of things like their teeth coming in at the wrong time.  In 2009, how can this be?  The name Drawn From Water came because they literally are saving children from being drowned by their own tribe in the waters of the Omo River.

And again, I'm so amazed that in such a short time, just a handful of people have made such a significant different in the lives of these children.  Truly, I want to live my life that way.

The words to the song on this video talk about the fact that after we have seen the truth, we are responsible for that knowledge.  Faith without works is dead.  I'm responsible, because I now have the truth.  If my faith is alive, then I will move.

Maybe there are some things people feel "called" to do.  I know there are.  Some things we are commanded in scripture to do.  Does this mean we are "called"?  I don't know.  I don't even know if I care.  I've been told to do something.  I have new knowledge.  I need to obey - right away.

What is it we are going to do?  I'm not sure, but I know we need to do something.  And, I know that we will.  I'm excited about giving my time on this planet to God in a new way and I can't wait to see what He has planned for us, and how that will impact others.

The following passage is from James 2.
14What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? 15Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. 16If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? 17In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. 18But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds."
Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.

19You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.
20You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? 21Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. 23And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness," and he was called God's friend. 24You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone.
25In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? 26As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.
