It's been a while since I posted, only because we've just been so busy around here. Things have changed quite a bit in our house since you last heard from me.
Doug & I felt God leading us to open our home to a friend of ours and her four kiddos. After much prayer and consideration, we felt that after having read Crazy Love by Francis Chan and various applicable scripture, it was time to put our faith into action. I can't say that we haven't been nervous at moments about our decision, but we are putting our faith in the Lord that He will provide for us through this time as well as lead us to appropriate housing for our friends.
It's a wonderful feeling to know that we are really walking in faith and doing what we believe God has called us to do. Honestly, we have no idea how long it might take to find housing for her, but we know that God knows and he has it under control.
Having 7 children in the house is quite an adventure! It has been much better than I thought it might be. The hardest part has been organizing the meals and keeping laundry done. However, the benefit to so many kids is that everyone helps and pitches in. It's actually not nearly as hard to keep the entire house clean and running smoothly as it is with just my three. Sounds crazy, I know, but it's true!
With so many kids in the house, they don't get babied nearly as much and everyone is expected to do what is age appropriate as far as helping. I can actually see a great benefit to having a large family as far as the rearing of children goes. They have to learn to do their part, work as a team, and generally be less selfish, when their are more kiddos around. They also always have someone to play with, so they don't need my physical presence nearly as much as they did before.
We've had a couple struggles, but all in all it is going very well. I think we are all learning alot about showing God's love to those around us in a new way.
